19 Weeks Pregnant

on Apr 16, 2011

Best Moment of the week: Carter’s meltdown, funny enough. Usually this would not fall into the “best” category, but it was too cute. My mom found one of his little rattle toys and told him that he would have to give it to his brother because it was a baby toy. He excitedly walked over to me with it and handed it to me with a smile. I put it on my belly and thanked him from the baby. Before I knew it, his bottom lip was sticking out and he burst into tears. I think the realization just hit him that he will have to share his toys with his brother! I tried to give him the toy back, but he didn’t want it. When he found it again later, he burst into tears again. So we’ve put that one away! Another one is happening right now. Carter is watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while I type this post (Myna-Mo, as he calls it), and he’s sitting next to me with his...

18 Weeks Pregnant

on Apr 9, 2011

Best Moment of the week: Spending time with my hubby and sweet Munchkin and hearing Carter learn his brother’s name. Epiphany of the week: If we wanted to keep the baby’s name a secret, we probably shouldn’t have told our little parrot! Entertaining question/comment of the week: “Let’s tell Carter the baby’s name is Bob.” –Glenn, after above epiphany Obsessions: Going in for my next doctor’s appointment…it’s the “big one” sonogram appointment where they check everything out. And we will hopefully have a final answer on the gender debate. May 2nd can’t come soon enough! What I am most looking forward to this week: Spending time with friends. Glenn being home finishing up his thesis. What I miss the most: Nothing, really Symptoms: I get really congested at random times and my ears clog up…very...

17 Weeks Pregnant

on Apr 3, 2011

Best Moment of the week: We had our “re-do” sonogram on Saturday since the DVD didn’t work from our last one. It was so reassuring to see him again with that little heart beating away. There was some debate whether or not HE was still a HE because of the way he was positioned, with his legs crossed and his cord between his legs. The lady doing the sonogram was really panicked for a moment thinking she’d gotten it wrong at 15 weeks, but by the end of the sonogram, she was back to being confident it was a boy. We’re going to wait until our 20 week sonogram at the doctor’s office to make any final decisions! 🙂 Epiphany of the week: Assuming he is a boy, we finally picked his name! While I won’t tell you what it is, I will say that one of the names we really liked belongs to the son of someone I know, and we’d originally ruled it out because...

16 Weeks Pregnant

on Mar 26, 2011

It seems that I might finally be feeling better after having a yucky cold for a week and a half. Carter and I went to his friend Hunter’s birthday party today and had a blast hanging out with all of the girls I used to work with and their cute kiddos, and eating yummy food. It was definitely nice to be out and about after being house-bound for the past few weeks! Carter’s newest obsession is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the Disney Channel, which he refers to as Myna-Mo. He absolutely loves this stupid show, which we are watching right now. I try not to let him watch too much television (for my sanity as much as his benefit), but he is certainly insistent when he wants his Myna-Mo fix. He has also starting calling 3 of our 4 cats by name…Bailey is Bay-e, Kenny is Ken-eh, and Sophie is Phie-Phie. He hasn’t come up with one for Zoey yet, nor has he mastered my...

15 Weeks Pregnant

on Mar 19, 2011

Since my last post there have been so many germs in my house, it’s ridiculous! After going almost an entire year without getting sick (he had croup when he was 4 months old), Carter got his first fever on Monday evening. He was up around 102-103 for the next couple of days and we just kept him on Motrin to help keep it down. Poor little guy felt lousy! Wednesday night the seal cough and rough breathing started, and sure enough, it was croup again! After getting a steroid injection the next day and a lot of rest, he finally started feeling better when Friday rolled around, phew! We had a great weekend, but then Monday hit. I woke up a little congested and by the end of the day felt like I’d been hit by a train. I have a nasty cold and have been sick all week, which is especially fun when you’re preggo and can’t take any good medicine…the Mucinex made me...

Week 14 Update

on Mar 7, 2011

I just got home from my monthly doctor’s visit, and I was thrilled to hear the heartbeat on the doppler this time…strong and clear, hello baby!! At this visit with Carter’s pregnancy, they weren’t able to hear it on the doppler yet, but I’d just come from an ultrasound, so it wasn’t a huge deal. While I wasn’t expecting to hear it this time, I was so glad to have that reassurance that yes, someone is in there growing away! The heartbeat was 148 bpm for those of you who want to have a theory on what I’m having. (P.S. At this point, it’s really too early to use heartbeat as any sort of predictor…it was totally wrong with Carter!) I’ve decided to steal this fun weekly survey from my fellow preggo friend, Erin (hi, Erin!) to keep tabs on the pregnancy: Best Moment of the week: Hearing that fantastic little heartbeat. I...

Here we go again!

on Mar 7, 2011

Hello again, friends and family! If you haven’t heard by now, SURPRISE!! I’m pregnant with McKay Baby #2! Glenn, Carter and I are all so excited to be bringing the fourth member of our little family into the world. I’m due 9/10/11, so the Munchkins will be a little less than 23 months apart…we were shooting for 2 years, but it was much easier to get pregnant this time around, so here we are! It’s funny how much more obsessed I was with my first pregnancy. I had a belly picture taken every week, blogged frequently about my experience, and could tell you pretty much to the second just how pregnant I was. Well here we are, 13 weeks and 1 day into pregnancy number two, and this is my first blog post in a new blog that has yet to be actually designed. (Maybe I’ll find a spare moment to do that at some point in the next 6 months!) I’ve yet to take a...

Growing a Person

39 weeks…enough already!

on Oct 14, 2009

I didn’t think I would make it to my 39 week doctor’s appointment this morning!  After last week’s progress, I really expected Carter to be here by now, but apparently, that was not in my cards. 🙂 Today was my first appointment with Dr. Fallieras, who was very nice, but just didn’t give me the news I wanted.  I’m still 1-2cm dilated, 80% effaced, same as last week.  I got another “Wow his head is low!” comment, which each doctor has noted with each exam. Here’s my issue…before labor starts your cervix is kind of pointed backwards (posterior), so the baby’s head isn’t pressing against it.  When you go into labor, it faces forward (anterior) so the baby’s head is aligned and ready to come out.  He compared it to a balloon.  If you put air into a balloon and tie a loose knot in the end and put the balloon on its side,...

The in-between time

on Oct 11, 2009

I am stuck in a holding pattern waiting for Carter to get here, lost somewhere in between my “old” life and my “new” one as I await his arrival.  For almost 29 years now, I have defined myself as many things…daughter, wife, student, friend, business owner…but now I am about to take on a completely different role…mother.  For almost 29 years, I have been Jenni…but now I will go by a different name…Mommy.  For over 14 years, Glenn and I have been just that…Glenn and Jenni, a couple….now we will be Mom and Dad, a family. I still find it hard to believe that this little person who has been living inside of me for almost nine months now is almost ready to come out and become the center of our universe.  Our whole world is about to completely change.  Until then, I sit here and wait until he’s ready.  Whether...

38 weeks and counting…

on Oct 8, 2009

I’m 38 weeks pregnant as of yesterday and really hoping that he will decide to make his grand entrance early now that he’s fully cooked. Now that we’ve reached the final stretch, I thought it was best to avoid freaking out all of the guys out there on Facebook with details from my doctor’s appointment, so I’ll just post them here if you want to stay updated. 🙂 First of all, if you missed my Millionaire episode or the Facebook updates afterward, Tater Tot officially has a name now!  We are looking forward to welcoming Carter Glenn McKay at any time! I met with Dr. Dill today, one of the woman doctors in my practice, who I really like.  When she walked in, she told me that she’d Tivo’ed my Millionaire episode since Dr. Jaeger mentioned last week that I was on the show, and congratulated me on the experience. 🙂  And she told me that her...

Getting bigger…

on Jun 29, 2009

It was just pointed out to me again that I’ve been a bad blogger, so here’s another update from me and the Tater Tot! We had a big exciting day on June 19th.  The game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire held auditions in Tampa, and my friend Liz and I, along with over 1000 other people, showed up to give it a shot.  Liz and I both made it through the general knowledge test, the producer interview and the on-camera interview (not too many people did!) and are waiting now to hear if we made it into the contestant pool.  Here’s a blog post I wrote about the audition process for my company’s blog if you want to learn more about it.  Keep your fingers crossed for me! Other than that, it’s been pretty slow here.  We celebrated Father’s Day with our parents last Sunday at Olive Garden…the last one before my dad becomes a “Grampy” and Glenn...

It’s a…..

on Jun 15, 2009

BOY!!!  Sorry if I’ve left anyone hanging for the past two weeks with that update.  Once again, I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to blog as much as I would like to.  I think most of you who read this are also friends with me on Facebook and I’m pretty good about posting updates and pictures there, so hopefully you’ve heard the news by now! We had the big sonogram on June 1st.  After the world’s longest weekend (I read 3.5 books!)  and waiting an extra 30 minutes for our appointment, I was so nervous by the time I finally got on the table that Monday. We had Rhonda do our sonogram again, which is great, because she’s so chatty and fun, and gave us all kinds of extra pictures. I was worried that the baby wouldn’t cooperate for the camera, but no such problems.  The baby was head down, feet up, legs spread and ready for inspection. ...

Our Bloomin’ Onion Becomes a Tater Tot

on May 25, 2009

Yes, I have been remiss with my blogging for the past two weeks.  After getting back from vacation, it took me a while to get back into the daily grind, and blogging fell by the wayside.  But Baby McKay and I have been doing very well, and both of us have been growing! Week 17 was “onion” week.  We had a doctor’s appointment with Dr. Jaeger the Monday after we got back from vacation, and got to listen to the heartbeat with the doppler.  The heartbeat was good and strong at 170 bpm, and we could even hear baby kicking with some extra thumps on the monitor!  After losing a pound during my first trimester, Dr. Jaeger was proud to see that I was finally up 5 pounds, declaring that I’d “turned it around.”  When was the last time anyone was proud of you for gaining weight?!  Such a weird concept.  I’m supposed to be gaining a pound a week now, and I...

Babymoon Part 2 / Guacamole Baby

on May 9, 2009

Another airport, another blog post.  We’re sitting in the Manchester, NH airport waaaaaaay early for our flight home, and some nice furniture store thankfully donated some comfy chairs in the main terminal that we’ve taken over.  We’re so early that we don’t even know which gate our flight will be leaving from, so we haven’t even made it through security! The babymoon was wonderful.  So relaxing, and just what we needed!  Our cabin was tucked away up in the middle of mid-coast Maine in a tiny costal town called Owls Head.  There were only a few cabins there along the little tidal bay where we stayed, and we were the only ones there during the week, so we had it all to ourselves.  We had a little beach out behind our cabin, and there were huge rocks that looked like whales flanking the beach.  The tidal fluctuations were crazy, but at low tide we could go...

Babymoon Part 1 / Florida Baby

on May 6, 2009

Update: I made it through the flight to Manchester, but ended up losing my cookies, so to speak, immediately after landing, what a bummer! We are in Maine now, and it’s rainy and cold, but beautiful. Posting this from a Staples Hotspot before heading off to explore Acadia National Park. Pictures to come later! Hello from rainy Newark! Glenn and I left very early this morning for our “babymoon” and we’re halfway there. We flew out of Tampa at 6:45 this morning after a mad dash to the airport. First I realized, after getting all the way out of our huge neighborhood, that I’d forgotten my coat, which is not the brightest idea when the high this week is in the 60s. So we turned around, went back, got the coat, and were once again on our way. Then we saw the big warning on the traffic board on I-275 South. “Police activity south of Fowler. Right two lanes closed.” Awwww man! That’s...

Feeling “Zesty”

on Apr 28, 2009

At 14 weeks, our baby is about the size of a lemon.  As my mom noted, and I noted too, I thought a peach was bigger than a lemon, but according to the measurements, it went from an average length of 2.9″ and .81 oz at 13 weeks (peach) to 3.4″ and 1.5 oz at 14 weeks (lemon), so regardless of which fruit it’s taking after this week, the baby is growing quite a bit, and almost doubled its body weight in one week.  Pretty incredible! I, on the other hand, am still not gaining much weight (I’m up about a pound from my pre-pregnancy weight), and most certainly not looking pregnant if I don’t choose to!  But there has been some change because my jeans are not quite fitting me anymore, and I’ve resorted to threading a hair elastic around the button and through the hole of my jeans to give my expanding belly a bit of extra room.  Maternity wear just seems...

This is sooooo me right now!

The Peach

on Apr 20, 2009

I’ve been reminded by  my “fans” that it’s been a while since I’ve posted a baby update, so here’s a quick update on me and our “peach” before it turns into a lemon on Wednesday! 🙂 I’ve been feeling much better overall, and have actually started eating like a human being again, which is very exciting…both for me and for poor starving Glenn!  I had so many food aversions in the first trimester, two of the worst being chicken (which I referred to as ICKen) and turkey, which are two of our major food staples, so we’re very happy to introduce those back into our meals again! I’m referring to the first trimester as the “Pregnancy Diet” since I actually LOST weight over my first 12 weeks.  I’m back up to my pre-pregnancy weight now, and trying to eat enough that I actually start gaining weight. ...

Our Little Plum

on Apr 8, 2009

Well today it’s official!  My first trimester is over, and I can FINALLY be “officially” pregnant, which makes me so happy!  So if you’re just finding out now, I’M PREGNANT!!! Glenn and I are both so happy to have our first little one on the way.  October 21st (or maybe a bit before or after!) will be here before we know it! We went in for our 12 week check up today.  I had my third sonogram, which managed to be even more incredible than the first two because it’s actually starting to look like a baby now!  The heartbeat is still strong at 160 bpm, and it’s measuring a bit bigger than my 12 weeks date, which are two very good signs that everything is going well so far. Here is a shot of the whole body.  The head is on the right side, and you can see the hand under its chin.  All of the white areas are bone.  You can see the spine at the bottom,...
